My Booking Story: The Winx Club!

It's been a minute since I touched this blog... an eventful minute indeed! If you've made it here, you've likely heard the news: I'm playing FLORA in the new Winx Club Reboot (ah!!) 🧚🏽‍♀️💫

The email I got from my team in Spring 2024!
The email I got from my team in Spring 2024!

When I first saw the email, I genuinely thought, hmm… this must be some other Winx Club. There was no way it was the Winx Club, the one I grew up with, the one whose episodes I'd watch back to back on Nickelodeon, the one I tried to model my tween fashion after (to no avail, but in my mind I achieved some stylish looks), the one whose magic made my little Vikki imagination explode. And there was definitely no way that I could be Flora, the Fairy of Nature herself. It didn’t really hit me until I stepped into the studio for the very first pre-lay session—that was the moment it sank in.

From the moment I saw the audition sides, I admired the thoughtfulness of the casting team. They wanted authenticity in the voices they cast. I noticed it immediately when I read: “the character should have a slight accent.” My first thought was, Wait—did Flora always have an accent? I ran to YouTube to double-check (the Mandela Effect has gotten me one too many times ha!) The answer, I confirmed, was no. Which meant: this was something new. Something I would get to build. And building her voice—a voice infused with warmth and cultural power while still honoring the voice actresses who came before me—has been one of the most surreal gifts of my career so far.

Spanish was one of my very first languages, passed down to me by my mamá Trini and my family overseas. I grew up in a world where languages and accents danced together. In Kindergarten, I would slip between English and Spanish and German and Catalan without even realizing it where I was (lol). What was once kind of embarrassing for me has transformed into my superpower. It’s the very thing that gave me the tools to honor Flora in this new way and a key differentiator to what I bring to the wild entertainment industry!

I’ve watched Winx Club since I was tiny, and Flora always drew me in. She was kind, sometimes shy, deeply connected to nature, a grounding force, but also fierce in her own right. Getting to breathe life into her, and to carry her voice into this new era, has been a full-circle dream come true.

A huge thank you as well to the incredible creative teams at Rainbow Group and 3 Beep (truly, their engineers are the most talented humans I've ever met) for trusting me with this special role, to my managers and agents for championing my voice (literally, lol), to my mentors and teachers for giving me the tools and vocal warm-ups that keep me standing, and to my fellow Winx castmates... whom I hope to meet very very soon!

Season 1 is already airing week by week on the BBC in the UK, and the global release will hit Netflix on October 2nd. I cannot wait for you all to meet Flora anew, to step back into this world of enchantment and, of course, a ton of magic. FLOWER POWER!
